The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been ordered to stop its seven-month strike by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN).
The decision came as a result of the federal government’s legal counsel being granted the injunction.
In order to prevent ASUU from continuing the strike while Chris Ngige, the minister of labor and employment, makes a decision regarding the referral, the federal government’s legal representative, James Igwe, filed a request for an interlocutory injunction.
Justice Polycarp Hamman approved the government’s request in his decision on Wednesday in Abuja.
ASUU started the strike in February after accusing the federal government of going back on prior agreements over things like increased financing for universities and raising professors’ pay.
