iPhones have a unique tool that can let you listen in on any room using your AirPods – although it was designed for people with hearing difficulties some have ‘misused it’ for eavesdropping
The Apple iPhone is packed full of secret tools and tricks. But one feature is possibly the sneakiest of them all.
The iPhone’s ‘Live Listen’ feature was originally intended to help people with hearing difficulties better manage conversations in noisy environments.
It lets you listen to a live audio feed through your AirPod earphones using the iPhone’s microphone from a distance.
However, if used correctly, it means you could listen in on any conversation from outside a room without anybody else knowing. All you’d have to do is hide your iPhone somewhere in the room.
Apple says: “With Live Listen, your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch can act as a microphone that sends sounds to your AirPods, Airpods Pro, AirPods Max, Powerbeats Pro or Beats Fit Pro.
“Live Listen can help you hear a conversation in a noisy area or even hear someone speaking across the room.”
To use the tool, all you need to do is add it to your iPhone’s Control Centre.
Go to Settings > Control Centre and then look for the ‘Add’ button next to a Hearing icon. (It looks like an ear)
Now, all you have to do is swipe open your iPhone Control Centre, tap the Hearing icon, and then hit ‘Live Listen’.
Place your iPhone or iPad near to the place or people you want to listen to. The audio should stream directly to your paired headphones.
