There is a new version of the official X app for Android, as the company has finally completed a year-long effort to rebuild it from scratch.
The relaunched and revamped app aims to address many of the concerns and complaints that surrounded the old version. The fact that the rebuild has taken a year is an indication of how major an undertaking the development was.
X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, described the work on the app as “one of the largest engineering projects” in the company’s history. The new version of the app is not just about making improvements to areas where there were seen to be issues. The development has been done in such a way that X says “it will enable us to build new features at lightning speed”,
Posting about the launch via its engineering account, X says:
We’ve completely rebuilt the Android X app from the ground up.
It’s faster, smoother, and more reliable than the old version in every way. We modernized the foundation so everything just feels better: scrolling, loading, notifications, you name it.

But while this new X app is being billed as.a vast improvement over its predecessor, it is not yet thought to be perfect.
