OpenAI’s New GPT-4o Model soon to be launched

It Is “Much Faster” And Enhances Text, Visual, And Audio Capabilities, Dedicated ChatGPT App Available For Mac

OpenAI is launching its new GPT-4o model which is derived from GPT-4. The technology will power OpenAI’s mighty popular ChatGPT platform, which is available on the web, iOS App Store, as well as Android. The company also announced that it is releasing the ChatGPT app for desktops, with the update rolling out for Macs as we speak. However, Windows users would have to wait a while to receive the dedicated app for their computer.

OpenAI announces GPT-4o, which features better response time and comes with additional utilities, ChatGPT app is now available for Mac

The upgraded GPT-4o model houses various improvements over the previous GPT-4 model in terms of speed and capabilities. It not only enhanced the text but audio and video operations as well, and as per the company’s CTO Mira Murati, the update will be available for free for all users, but paid subscribers will have five times higher capacity limits. The company states in a blog post that GPT-4o will start “rolling iteratively”, but the text and image-based enhancements will be available today.

Since the platform is natively multimodal, it will be able to generate content based on user commands through text, audio, or images. Developers can now gain access to the GPT-4o API, priced half as much as the GPT-4 Turbo variant. The new features part of the upgrade is a new voice mode with a voice assistant that responds to queries in real-time while observing the environment. Currently, the voice mode can only perform operations based on a single prompt. You can check out the complete live stream below for more details on the product and its capabilities.

As mentioned, the company announced at its event that it will be releasing a dedicated ChatGPT app for the Mac. ChatGPT subscribers can download the app starting today. If the update is not available in your region yet, we would advise you to give it a few weeks for a wider rollout. Users can simply initiate ChatGPT by pressing the Option + Space key to ask a question. Additionally, you will also be able to converse with the Voice Mode from the microphone on your Mac.

As mentioned, OpenAI will release the ChatGPT app for Windows computers later this year. One major aspect of the announcement is the upgrade from GPT-3.5 to GPT 4 for Macs, which will be a free upgrade as well for all users. With OpenAI’s recent advancements in voice mode, we presume that Apple will potentially take advantage of it with a dedicated chatbot in iOS 18. It was recently reported that Apple and OpenAI have struck a deal to bring ChatGPT features to Siri and iOS 18. While details are scarce at this stage, we will hear more details on the matter at the company’s WWDC 2024 event next month.
