Popular instant messaging platform WhatsApp is now rolling out the new Call Links feature to more users now. WhatsApp has been working on a lot of new features in the past few months. Be it the ability to turn yourself into a sticker, allowing up to 1,024 people in group chats, to even letting you create group polls. It is one of those apps that has resisted bloating its platform with unnecessary features.
Well, one interesting and useful feature called Call Links, which first appeared last month, is now rolling out to more users across the globe. Mark Zuckerberg announced the feature last month, and it brings shareable voice and video call links. While it has been just a few weeks, the WhatsApp Call Link feature is already making its way to users.
WhatsApp won’t notify you if someone joins the linked call
When you switch to the Calls tab on the WhatsApp app, you will notice a new ‘Create call link’ button pinned above your call log. Tapping on it will give you two options to set the call type, i.e., voice or video. Once done, you can copy the invite link and forward it to your contacts via WhatsApp or any other sharing platform.
Once the recipients receive the WhatsApp call invite link, they can tap on the ‘Join’ button and hop onto the call. Do note that people can join in a call at any time they want, and WhatsApp won’t notify you if someone joins the call. So, you need to be active on the call in order to notice who has joined the call and who hasn’t.
Also, as noted by Android Police, WhatsApp thinks all calls are group calls, even though you have invited only a single person. The implementation seems to be a bit wonky at present overall. Linked calls will have a link icon making it easier to identify in the call logs.
